Description
The original 1970 – 1976 TR6 flywheel with ring gear weighs about 27.25 lbs. This Good Parts premium grade lightweight steel flywheel with ring gear weighs 16.7 lbs. The 10.5 lb reduction in rotating mass provides quicker throttle response and acceleration while maintaining smooth shifting and overall driving experience. This flywheel is the perfect weight for a high performance street car where you might not want the radical response of the 12.4 lb ultra-lightweight flywheel.
The face of this flywheel is precision ground after installing the ring gear to correct any distortion caused by shrinking the ring gear onto the rim. The ground finish also provides a better friction surface for the clutch disc than a machined surface. The ring gear is aligned in the proper position so no starter shim is needed. Clutch aligning dowel pins are stepped down from a larger diameter in the flywheel so there is no possibility of a dowel pin coming out during operation.
Compared to aluminum flywheels, steel flywheels have a more reliable attachment to the crankshaft. Softer material and dissimilar expansion rates of aluminum vs the steel crankshaft make it hard to keep an aluminum flywheel tight on the crankshaft.
Kit includes ARP flywheel bolts, ARP clutch pressure plate bolts, stepped dowel pins and a pilot bushing.
